@Einahpets I used to post on comics message boards too, but the Flash fandom started getting fractured and nasty when DC spent 5 years changing their mind about who was going to be the Flash every 12 months. I finally just changed my forum passwords & didn’t write them down so I’dhave to jump through hoops to go back. I kept blogging for a while, but I’ve really pulled back from that in the last few years.

@Einahpets Used to be the Flash (comics, way before the TV show) and Babylon 5. Actually going back further I wrote fanfic for Blake’s 7.

For years I obsessively maintained a Flash fan site with character bios & appearances, starting in the pre-wiki era & keeping it going because I was doing research into the old issues. I still maintain a fan blog, but I don’t write much for it anymore.

In the past 2 weeks I have had to patch both of my bike tires and replace one of my son’s tires. (And he’s only been riding a month.) Some plant along the local bike path produces seeds with thorns that we keep running over.

I spent yesterday’s ride (after fixing both our bikes) looking at all the plants, trying to figure out which ones produced the thorns. No luck.

So I searched onlineby describing the seeds. Looks like sandburs, and the plants do look familiar.

I’ll be on the lookout.

Other than specific roles (like a dedicated admin account), how do you balance them? Heck, how do you label them?

I’ve got 4 masto accounts: 1 for “good” photos, 1 for book discussion. I keep changing my mind abt how to handle the other 2, what to post where, who to follow on which account & so on.

There’s value in separating social contexts, but there’s a practical limit too.

How many accounts do you balance? How do you keep track of them?

Today was some light lunchtime reading about the history of the Paris sewers. 😱

They’re particularly awful until a dangerous multi-year exploration starts in 1806. Slightly improved by 1832, much better by 1862.

And I kid you not, Hugo insists that Paris has the best *sewage*. While complaining about how we flush all that fertilizer out to sea, he actually describes “Parisian guano” as “the richest of all.”

I finished the June Rebellion chapters of #LesMiserables early afternoon on June 6, the same time that the barricade fell in the book. That was kind of weird.

Lots of commentary and philosophy on revolution & urban/civil warfare, presented as supporting for the story, but I realize now it’s the other way around.

I was hoping to have finished reading the barricade section of #LesMiserables in time for #barricadeday, but the last few days have been packed & I don’t think I’ll have much time to read at lunch today.

There’s not much plot from where I left off to the last stand, but it’s dense.

One thing about #LesMiserables that always seemed odd: at times we see the start of someone’s inner turmoil in great detail, but the POV pulls away before we can see how they actually *make* the decision.

Ex: When Valjean heads to the barricade to…save Marius? Make sure he dies? Who knows?

This time through, I understand: he hasn’t decided, but he can’t let fate take the responsibility away from him.

Kiddo has asked to pick up Harry Potter again for storytime

Kiddo has asked to pick up #HarryPotter again for storytime. #ChamberOfSecrets is my least favorite of the series, but it’s interesting seeing things set up for what we know now. We’re up to the polyjuice potion – it’s been kind of fun doing alternate voices for everyone.

Also: Someone clearly did renovations on the Chamber entrance prior to Tom Riddle opening it, but during the 20th century. Who?

Saga, Flash & Speed Buggy

Read some #comics today:

#Saga #52: The more innocuous the cover, the more apprehensive I am about the story. Interesting character bits, quick reversals and a nasty cliffhanger.

#TheFlash #47: Everything and the kitchen sink that’s missing from the current book, but playing out oddly disconnected.

Flash & Speed Buggy: Over the top.

@natecull I think The Last Jedi pushes back against this. Poe fits the description a lot better than Luke does, and his whole arc is learning that it’s a problem. Finn’s a counter example. And I see Luke more as someone dealing with depression and trying to push everyone away than someone who equates being a jerk with heroism. And even then part of the point is that he has to push through it.
