OK, that’s a better shot of the butterfly. Most likely a Painted Lady

Dappled orange-and-black butterfly perched on the stem of a thistle-like flower, facing toward the camera and a bit to the right with its wings half-open. Several more green stems and clusters of tiny pink flowers surround it.
