“Flaming goat cheese on a truck” would make a good curse. But it’s awful for your commute

I’m going to have to start using “flaming goat cheese on a truck!” as a pseudo-curse.

This is even weirder than the truck full of meat that caught fire on the 5 near Camp Pendleton a few years back, blocking the entire freeway in an area with no alternate routes for a whole day.

The Web We Lost

Things you could do with the old web that newer sites can’t figure out – or don’t want to.

When you see interesting data mash-ups today, they are often still using Flickr photos because Instagram’s meager metadata sucks, and the app is only reluctantly on the web at all. We get excuses about why we can’t search for old tweets or our own relevant Facebook content, though we got more comprehensive results from a Technorati search that was cobbled together on the feeble software platforms of its era.

So the group that put together that “Three Myths About Copyright…” paper last Friday

So the group that put together that “Three Myths About Copyright…” paper last Friday has retracted it. Apparently the RIAA didn't like what it was saying. (Funny thing).

Yellow clouds near sunset.

Yellow clouds near sunset. It looked like the thicker clouds were actually raining – in fact, we could see a fragment of rainbow off to the right of the frame – but there was no sign of the rain actually reaching the ground anywhere.

They came out a bit too orange, now that I look at them again. But the golden hour sunlight reflected off of the cloud cover made for eerie lightning. It reminded me a bit of being in the smoke plume of a wildfire, except for the fact that the air was clear. (Clearer than usual, actually, with the Santa Anas blowing.)

Interesting. This article is missing a few numbers, but Wikipedia’s article on the election…

Interesting. This article is missing a few numbers, but Wikipedia's article on the election places him at 0.95% of the popular vote, the highest of the third party candidates this year (though still smaller than the gap between Romney & Obama). Still smaller than Nader's share in 2000, and of course WAY smaller than Ross Perot's record 18% in 1992.

Be sure to vote today even if you don’t like the major choices for President….

Be sure to vote today even if you don't like the major choices for President. Don't just stay home to “send a message,” vote for a third party candidate instead. Staying home sends a message all right, but not about your disappointment with the system. It sends the message that you're willing to lie down and let the system walk all over you.
