Writing a bug report and almost typed “dada cascade”
Now THAT’s absurd.

Updated zlib, should prevent this security vulnerability, right?
Zlib data compressor fixes 17-year-old security bug – patch, errrm, now
Right?
I wonder how many containers, snaps, flatpaks, staticly-linked binaries, etc. use their own copies of the library instead of the system one.
Of COURSE there’s a mix of Surface Pressure made entirely of autotuned Roblox “Oof” sounds.
As part of my exploration of #IndieWeb, web gardening, and #11ty, I’m collecting some of my reviews from old blog posts, amazon, etc. at https://hyperborea.org/reviews/ as a way to continue refining the minimalist layout for more use cases. I’m also starting to write new ones!
I’m cross-posting the book reviews to @bookwyrm as a more topical way to bring them into the Fediverse than just linking on Mastodon.
For some of my posts I’ve manually converted the files so I can fine-tune it. But I have one site I’m auto-generating, and I’ve done a mix of site- and page-specific code like @kensanata (ex. for web links that have a corresponding #gemini location, or removing images by class), adjusting the source to convert more nicely where appropriate, and just letting some of it sit there looking weird for now.
They may not *talk* about Bruno, but my brain has been *singing* about him for days.
(We finally watched Encanto last week…and again…and again…and the kid has been watching every remix he can find on YouTube. Repeatedly.)
#Birds of #MadronaMarsh. There were a zillion red-winged blackbirds, at least one group of goldfinches, some starlings, and of course the usual geese and ducks.

The quadrants of mythical fantasy worlds are important to the alchemical geography. There’s a remark about switching west to east from Oz to another author’s world. That confused me, since the text of the books and all the maps I’d seen in them clearly showed it matching:
East=Blue/Munchkins,
West=Yellow/Winkies.
Turns out the Oz map was printed backward the first time it appeared.
Switching directions is real-world canon!
Tor is offering a free e-book of Seanan McGuire’s Middlegame this week!
It’s really, really good. Sort of a modern horror fantasy focusing on alchemy and time loops with characters who have been created to be superhuman at things like math, language, order, chaos, etc.
Possibly my favorite of her books that I’ve read. Definitely recommended!
“I want another pony!”
Wondering how many times we need to do the “look, you already have one of these and it works fine”/”but this one’s BETTER!!!” dance
So, picking up my glasses from my desk was enough to jostle the mouse and wake up the computer, but not enough to knock over the quarter that I stood on edge last night right next to where I set my glasses down.
I love how ClamAV is still on a 0.x release after a decade and a half of active development and wide use in production environments!
“No, we are not putting Swedish Fish in banana bread.”
Oh fun…some spammer used their mailing list email as the reply-to address
Which means all the autoreplies and bounces and complaints and challenge-responses and everything are going out to the same list.
And they’ve got a lot of website contact emails on the list too, so I’m getting random tech support ticket confirmations and thanks-for-your-interest and so on along with everything else.
Big difference between a signed document and a singed document, thank you typing fingers.
Found an eBay seller who’s selling off the individual keys from another model that *might* fit.
I have no idea how I managed to lose my sunglasses halfway through a walk without stopping to set anything down.
Thinking about this, I did take them off in the shade. I probably put them in my pocket and then they fell out somewhere along the way.
It should not be this hard to find ONE replacement key for a desktop keyboard.
