I see tree squirrels around town all the time, but this is the first ground #squirrel I’ve spotted in ages. You can tell by the narrower tail. and the pattern of the fur.
And when I moved too fast it dove into the hole instead of running off.
Three smaller birds tried to chase away a pair of hawks from an electrical tower. One of them flew off while they chased it. The other waited a bit, then flew off to join the first one circling farther away.
This #squirrel ran across the street, under a car, across a lawn and up into a tree.
I don’t think I’ve seen this variety of succulent flowering before. It looks like an overturned Ferroseed or the plant version of the Omnidroid from The Incredibles.
I heard chattering and slowly walked toward this tree in a city park. Once I got to it, I stopped, and slowly looked around until I spotted the #squirrel up in the branches, just looking at me and waving its tail very rapidly. I took two photos, then walked away.
Warning, schmorning. I perch where I want!
(To be fair, the kingbird is unlikely to dig into the pipeline. Or damage the sign. Much.)
Two crows chased a squirrel across the lawn at a park, one of them swooping down and possibly making contact with its claws (I couldn't quite tell) until it ran up this tree. Then they perched on a nearby fence and waited. When it tried to run down the trunk, they flew at it again and it went back up. One crow perched on another branch of the tree and waited, while the other flew off.

Probably a Cooper’s Hawk, also spotted on the same walk this afternoon. It flew up to a telephone pole, alighted there for a few seconds, and as I was trying to line up a shot with the camera, it took off again, then flew a few houses down the street to perch in this tree.

TODO: Full image is on Flickr. Is this crop there also? Is either on K2R?
This weekend, try to observe as many wild plants and animals in your neighborhood as you can, especially in urban areas.
Here are some #birds I spotted on a late afternoon walk today, including a sparrow, one of many many finches, two doves, and what I think might be two blackbirds (yes, including the gray one).

Two (probably red-tailed) hawks spotted on an electrical tower, one looking north, one looking east. I often see one perched up there, watching for prey, but rarely two!
I don’t usually see *two* hawks on this tower!
Earth, daisies.
These plum leaves are deep red in spring.
I thought I’d posted this a while back, but apparently I haven’t. Think of it as #AmongUs: Vegetable Edition.
I do appreciate the bandage motif for the distancing markers at this urgent care. (Everything’s ok, this was the follow-up visit to an injury last week.)
This house #finch is clearly in Engineering. “I’m giving her all the power I can, Cap’n!”

I saw this #squirrel from about 20 feet away. It slowly moved toward me, pausing to pose every few feet. I think it was hoping I would feed it.
No it isn’t!
