It all started when longtime Pismo Beach surfer Dana McGregor would leave his pet goat, Goatee, at home when he would go surfing and she would cry all the time he was gone, much to the annoyance of his neighbors. So, he took her to the beach with him and taught her to surf and quickly became a tourist favorite.

1. Put down phone.
2. Take off glasses, set them down on desk.
3. Open laptop.
4. Look around for glasses.
5. Realize they’re behind the laptop.
6. Close laptop.
7. Pick up glasses and put them on.
8. Open laptop.
I feel like there’s some room to optimize these steps somewhere… 🤔
I really wish Minecraft Realms had some basic logging. Even just who was online when.
The kid has two sets of friends who play on our realm. Someone keeps griefing our base, and they keep blaming each other for it and trying to get the other group banned.
The unmistakable sound of a creeper exploding crosses the room during a LAN game of Minecraft.
“Don’t worry, nothing important blew up.”
“What blew up?”
“A creeper.”
Power glitched a few times like it did during the windstorm a couple of weeks ago. Called the power company again. This time they came out and replaced the wires bringing power to the building. Just before sunset, so we played Uno next to the biggest window in the apartment as the outside light faded until the lights came back on and the trucks drove away.
Car’s going to need to wait for parts, but I can still drive it until then.
Finally taking care of some bike & car repairs that have been lurking for a while. I have a bike again!
Kid: “Why do you have to force me to do whatever I want, no matter what???!!!!”

Parents managed to get the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. MIL made it through an asymptomatic case & has an appointment for a vaccine (I forget which one). Feels like *something* is finally moving forward
Kid just referred to “The Backyard Scientist” as “Florida Man” and…he’s not wrong
Also dreamed that I’d worked on a satellite to deliver an EMP to a target location on Earth, had the targeting app on my phone, and was trying to figure out a way to make the satellite self-destruct so no one could actually use it, without it tracing back to me.
I wonder if that’s related to having listened to the Rogue One soundtrack recently.
Also dreamed that my employer was holding one single in-office day for everyone to pack things up for storage before we went back to remote work. Everyone was distancing but at some point we all realized that none of us were wearing masks
Dreamed I accidentally opened Facebook on my phone for the first time in over a year while trying to open an app to order McDonald’s. Despite the fact that I don’t even like McDonald’s.

Oregon healthcare workers stuck on the road in a snowstorm with vaccine doses they knew wouldn’t make it back to the clinic before expiring ended up walking up and down the road knocking on car doors offering the shots to other people stuck in traffic with them.
Kid heard the phrase “Yellow submarine” but didn’t know the song. Now he’s singing it to the tune of “Pinky and the Brain”
Spent a good chunk of time last night & this morning (post-windstorm) trying to fix a broken boot loader on my desktop. (Pro-tip: when power’s flaky, make sure the computer is *off*, not just asleep.)
I figured out pretty quickly that UEFI was missing an entry for the Linux install, but since manually creating boot entries in UEFI isn’t something you do very often, it took me forever to find the right steps to fix it.

Windstorm kicked up overnight. Power has been flaky all freaking day. I’ve been able to get work done on the laptop because I only need intermittent internet access.
But between losing power & losing internet, the desktop’s not available for gaming, and the kid is getting seriously restless.
Plus we forgot to do laundry yesterday and can’t rely on the washer to stay on through a whole cycle.
Hmm, maybe if there’s no reliable computer access tonight we can get the kid to actually go to bed at a reasonable hour?
Yeah, right, who am I kidding?
