Anyway, I’m relieved at the result of the election, though in a sane country it wouldn’t have been as close as it was. Trump started his term taking a sledgehammer to the walls and when the house caught fire, he cheerfully tossed gas on it figuring he’d look better by firelight. I’ll happily take someone who’ll at least try to put the fire out, even if his repair plans aren’t perfect.

Covid measures metaphor

Covid measures metaphor: Think of each measure (masks, distance, limiting crowds, ventilation, etc.) as a slice of Swiss cheese. Sure, there are holes in each slice, but you stack them together and they cover each other’s gaps.

A Swiss cheese approach to pandemic safety

Also, a nice visual display of how coronavirus spreads in indoor scenarios and how different actions reduce the risk.

A Metro train in Rotterdam overshot the end of its track, but caught on a giant whale tail sculpture instead of falling 30 feet to the ground. No passengers were onboard, and the driver escaped unharmed. Now they have to figure out how to get the train down safely.

The sculpture, incidentally, is called “Saved by the Whale’s Tale.”

Found the always-open-in-apps setting on Firefox for Android & thought, hey, that might be useful.

But now it wants to open links with tracking parameters in Nextcloud, which of course is saying, hey, I don’t know how to open that!

Dug into the phone settings & Nextcloud says it can handle “*” – presumably because you can point it to any Nextcloud server you want. I wonder if there’s a way to limit it to the ones you’ve actually configured?

Anyway, turned off the setting for now.

Hmm, I wonder if there’s an Android-compatible Firefox add-on that strips out tracking parameters…

Argh, forgot that Firefox had limited the Android version to a dozen “recommended” add-ons. I mean they include things like ublock origin & privacy badger (and apparently there’s a privacy possum add on as well!), There’s just not much selection.

Just realized that for the past hour I’ve been wearing the new glasses that I’ve been meaning to take back to get adjusted. They’re actually perfect for laptop & handheld reading.

It’s just that my desktop setup is the wrong distance for them. I guess I can either move the monitor or just keep using the old glasses there.

Anyone know what the dots in the upper right and lower middle of the Pixel 5 camera square are? The upper middle is the flash, and the two sides are the regular and wide-angle lenses. In guessing the upper right is the microphone for shooting video with the rear camera, and the lower middle is a light sensor, but they’re not identified on the reference page I found.
