I haven’t been able to get out on solo walks the last couple of days, but managed to get out with the kid while he biked around the neighborhood so I was able to get a few shots for the Socially Distant BioBlitz on #iNaturalist

Unfortunately my bike needs a ton of work right now, so I was walking/running behind him while wearing a mask and trying to pause to take photos of birds and plants when he wasn’t looking disapprovingly at how slow I was moving on my feet compared to his wheels. 🤷‍♂️

Kiddo discovered today that one of his classmates also plays Minecraft. They spent half the afternoon & evening playing online.

But being two 9YO kids, neither of them bothered to start a farm, so they were both SOOOO HUNGRYYYY after sprint-jumping everywhere.

I joined & planted some wheat. Within 5 minutes, the other kid walks up to me in game and says I NEED FOOD!

It just cracked me up, ’cause it’s automatic for kids: You’re hungry, you ask the grown-up in the room.

Even in Minecraft.

covid-adjacent / thermometers

The button on the digital thermometer has been acting flaky lately. First it wouldn’t turn off without extra pressure. Now it’s turning on randomly on its own, taking room temperature, and reporting that it’s below fever threshold.

My wife joked, “Well, at least none of the ghosts have fevers.”

Seriously, though, now is not an ideal time to look for a replacement thermometer.

#Minecraft released an April Fools snapshot where putting a book in a nether portal turns it into a portal to a new dimension based on the book’s contents. Some have been designed, and otherwise they’re generated randomly.

According to the video the kid is watching, “message” gets you a world with a giant message, written in flames, saying “WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE”
