Creepy etymology

Somehow – probably because I learned the word sarcophagus long before I learned much in the way of Latin/Greek suffixes or prefixes – it never occurred to me that it literally means “flesh eater”

Apparently Pliny the Elder thought limestone dissolved bodies and was well-suited for stone coffins:

@nolan I understand the kind of tweetstorm that’s stream of consciousness, where you just keep adding to it as you think of stuff.

But then there’s the kind that really is an article divided into tiny chunks, and it’s like…would you want to watch a movie in 30 second chunks? No, it’s terrible presentation. But that’s where the audience is. All the people who are on Twitter already and will see your thread because it’s there, but can’t be bothered to click on a link to your blog.

Day of the Pokemon

Spent the morning with the kid learning to play the Pokemon card game. After lunch he wanted to play the online version. After that I needed a break and went for a walk. I got back and he wanted to play a Minecraft mod with me that adds…you guessed it: Pokemon. And with dinner, when it became clear that there was no room on the table and we asked if he wanted to watch something, he suggested…yep. the original Pokemon cartoon.

I’m all Pokemon’d out.

Huh. MyWOT (Web of Trust, a site reputation service & browser add-on) is still around, after having been caught selling users’ personal data several years ago.

And they still have the twisted ring logo that looks like the dream ter’angreal from that *other* WOT (Wheel of Time).
