Needy email from FB: “A lot has happened on Facebook since you last logged in.”
FFS, it was literally *yesterday*.
I think I’d use the site more *without* the constant begging to come back.

@OldBrushNewPaper @DialMforMara I’ve been infuriated by that too. IMO push notices on a social platform should be reserved for actual interactions – requests ot notices from *people*, not requests from the platform.
This brings back memories of my old spamfighting days.

Is there a concept of an #ActivityPub hub?
I’m thinking long-term it would be cool to have my own federated microblog, full blog, and photo gallery, using the most appropriate software for each, but present them as accounts on a single hostname instead of having to do a separate subdomain for each.
I saw a T-shirt today with the slogan:
Chemically speaking, whiskey is a solution.
@offtheball I’m always amused by the dancing around they do in that exchange to get around the censors.
Though considering they managed to get “You’re out of your Vulcan mind!” on the air in another episode…
Stumbled on a link to this in another article. I was literally planning to use this feature to set up a list sometime this week that I could use to narrow down the FB firehose when I only have a few minutes, in hopes that I might actually keep up with at least some of my friends instead of avoiding Facebook because I’m so far behind.
So much for that idea.

Finally spotted the plant whose spiky seeds keep puncturing bike tires. It’s a low, creeping mat that can grow right next to the path and spread onto it, and the seeds grow in clusters. The dried seeds’ spikes punch straight through, sometimes to the inner tube.
Unfortunately I have no idea what it is, since it doesn’t match my previous guess (sand burr / sand spur) from what I can tell.
@abetterjulie Yes, that looks like it. Thanks!

And damn, puncture vine is an accurate name…
Spotted at the county fair last night:
Deep fried Twinkie dogs and Zucchini Weenies have been joined by triple-decker donut burgers, chicken-in-a-waffle-on-a-stick, and the donut chicken and ice cream sandwich. But for sheer “because we can” ridiculousness: deep-fried filet mignon. What a waste.
…
@janellecshane This is all I can remember seeing off the top of my head at other food booths:
Deep fried Oreo
Oreo Churros
Deep Fried Snickers
PB&J Sriracha Funnel Cake
Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream Sundae
Gouda, Bacon and Jalapeno Grilled Cheese
Ravioli on a Stick
Gouda and Ravioli Grilled Cheese

Saw this on birdsite:
Scientists Slowly Reintroducing Small Group Of Normal, Well-Adjusted Humans Into Society
ITHACA, NY—In an ambitious attempt to revive a population long considered to be on the brink of extinction, scientists announced Friday they have slowly begun to reintroduce normal, well-adjusted human beings back into society.
7YO is experimenting with HTML and Notepad++: “There. Now I can see the crulfs.”
Me & wife: “Crulfs?”
I look over at the screen. “Oh, CRLFs!”
@Einahpets Same here. I go for the porters and stouts, my wife goes for the IPAs, and waiters often switch them when they bring the glasses to the table.
I saw a new Lamborghini this morning, gliding through traffic like an orange cross-section of airfoil, barely inches off the road. Behind it rolled up a raised F-150 pickup truck, tires almost as high as the car in front of it.
Suddenly that airfoil looked more like a mobile speed bump.
@nev @DialMforMara Yep…and now they’ve got you back while you write that link post, and they can try to keep you there long enough to see some ads before you go.
It’s amazing how desperate FB is to keep you engaged. If I’ve been away for 24 hours, they start sending me “So and so posted something! Don’t you want to look?”
Had a conversation this morning on the importance of not shaming people for learning new things that they “should have known already.” It reminded me of this XKCD from a few years back.
@stefanhayden @andeluuu @Mastodon We have book clubs at https://booktoot.club ! #sffbookclub, #nfbookclub, #storyclub & a few others.
@andeluuu @stefanhayden @Mastodon Just check out the hashtags to see what people are reading. There’s a master list at https://fediverse-reads.dreamwidth.org
Joining the specific instance isn’t required, since hashtag columns will federate.
@andeluuu @stefanhayden @Mastodon I mean each server will be able to see tagged posts from others, so you don’t have to move to a specific one to participate in a conversation around a hashtag.
I’ve made a point from time to time of linking to Mastodon posts from birdsite & FB. Not sure how many people followed.
That said, I’m not a huge fan of the “screenshot of text” phenomenon. IMO text should be quoted so it’s accessible & searchable, not photographed…but based on my experience trying to share *just* links, screenshots might be more effective. Even if it seems backwards to me.
@stefanhayden @Mastodon Just links & descriptions, I mean. Not URLs by themselves.
It’s not too late: There’s still one left!
No, really, just one: The Last Blockbuster
