I can hear these sparrows all day. There are a few nests around in bushes and possibly in roofs. But this year’s generation is also really good at hiding and dodging cameras, so I don’t often get them on camera.

Brewer’s Blackbird (on roof)
There were two of these birds. I couldn’t tell what they were from a distance except they didn’t look like crows.
House Finch
European Starling
Somewhere between five and ten starlings were flitting up to a wall and back down to the open part of a greenbelt that’s been closed to foot traffic for pandemic distancing, walking around through the grass. From a distance, they were often completely hidden by the grass and I had to take a lot of pictures just to be sure I could see them on *some* of them!

Spotted a Monarch butterfly today, and it actually landed and held still long enough for me to get a clear photo.

Tree Squirrels
I saw this squirrel next to a tree while walking down the sidewalk. I stopped, we both stared at each other for a moment, then it went around the tree. I got down to take a second photo and it stood up on its hind legs, posing, though it gave up and realized I wasn’t going to feed it by the time I had the camera ready.

American Pipit
There were at least two, possibly three or four of these birds hopping around the grass next to a bike path. They weren’t easy to spot at a distance.
This bird’s new to me: apparently it’s an American pipit, also known as a buff-bellied pipit, a small ground-nesting insectivore. I spotted several of them walking around in the grass next to a bike path that’s just been closed down, though I could see them from the sidewalk with a zoom lens.

A patch of woodsorrels in a lawn. I suppose they’re technically weeds, but they still look nice. #flowers
Umbrella Paper Wasps
The nest seems empty, so I’m guessing someone already zapped it.
A dove spotted this morning.
A dove spotted this morning. I just walked around the neighborhood and most of the birds I spotted were on cables like this.
Might be a mourning dove, turtle dove, or collared dove. If you happen to know, feel free to chime in at #iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/40535563
Finally recovered enough from the flu to get out for a walk in the neighborhood (while that’s still an option).

I think this first bird (possibly a goldfinch?) was trying to practice social distancing, though the crow in the third photo seems to be doing a better job. The house finch was such a bright red that I thought it had to be another kind of bird until I looked at the photos.
