No surprise the same people who reject climate science because they don’t like policies to deal with climate change are rejecting epidemiology because they don’t like policies to deal with a pandemic. That’s not rationality, skepticism or critical thinking. It’s willful ignorance

Interesting article about how a burst of quick & cheap building in the 1950s of terraced balcony homes resulted – by accident – in a vertical mix of economic classes & vibrant urban life. “Behind the Accidentally Resilient Design of Athens Apartments”

Interesting idea: an “I made a mistake” button on social media to let people retract a bad take so that it stops spreading, those who saw it will see the follow-up, & people are a bit more willing to admit an error to start with

So if I understand the conservative position, a business should be allowed to refuse service to anyone based on their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, etc., but *not* based on whether they’re wearing enough clothing?đ
Shoppers are suing over mandatory mask rules, but doctors donât buy it
A Pittsburgh grocery chain is facing multiple lawsuits over its no-exceptions mask policy
No shirt, no shoes, no service, right?
(And I’ve always found it amusing that they don’t specify pants.)
And now I’m thinking of the news story about a group of Czechs who were sunbathing nude back in, idk, April, and were cited for not wearing masks.
Worth noting: They’re closing beaches for the holiday weekend not because beaches are inherently dangerous for viral transmission, but because *crowds* are dangerous, and on hot holiday weekends, lots of people like going to the beach, which produces…crowds.

Cases of a deadly pandemic are spiking and hospitals are filling up, but somehow, not being able to go to the beach on July 4 is OMG tyranny? REALLY? Grow up. Take some responsibility for the people around you. Your beach party is not more important than their lives.

Look, actual data on this coronavirus and actions taken, showing what people who study diseases have been telling you for months. “Now you can see the relationship between reopening policies and COVID-19 cases”

Shout-out to the selfish assholes who were driving around the neighborhood in a pickup back in May shouting “Re-Open Cali!” “After record-breaking day of coronavirus cases, California surpasses 6,000 deaths”

Been saying it for a while: Trump will do every awful thing Republicans accused Obama of planning. And they’ll cheer him for it.

Yeah, let’s just shut off the water to the firefighters while the house is still burning. “What a US exit from the WHO means for COVID-19 and global health” Trump doesn’t give a shit how many people die as long as he gets to blame someone else for it.

1. Criticism is not censorship. 2. The 1st amendment protects individuals & companies from interference from the government, not the other way around. 3. If Twitter is liable for users’ words, that gives them more incentive to actually censor the content they’re just labeling.

A private company labeling falsehoods as such is not a violation of the first amendment. A government action to punish the company for doing so would be.

The coronavirus lockdown is miserable. Rushing herd immunity could be worse
Or if you prefer a satirical take on it, here’s @TheOnion: “We urge these governors to immediately loosen restrictions on large gatherings, witness an influx of cases, and piss us off further by once more putting in place restrictions”
