I once described Twitter as “a train crashing into a burning dumpster, and the railroad owner won’t let firefighters in because they’re doing such a brisk business selling marshmallows.” Seems to describe the current state of politics in general now.

One of the world’s biggest communications vectors doubling down on “We think it’s critically important to let politicians pay us to make sure you hear it when they lie to you” doesn’t exactly inspire trust.

The squirrel turned around and planted itself firmly, staring at me as if ready to defend its hoard.

I saw this squirrel running across the grass, then got my camera out and caught the first photo as it ran up the side of a tree and paused, looking at me as if assessing whether I was a threat or not. Then it ran the rest of the way up to look at a gap in the tree, perhaps assuring itself that its stash was still where it had left it. I walked around to see that there was a hollow between the two major branches, and the squirrel turned around and planted itself firmly, staring at me as if ready to defend its hoard.

My photos taken, I walked away.

The guy has been in office for almost 3 years and hasn’t figured out that the job isn’t about him. It’s about the nation. Every other President in my lifetime understood that. I think even Nixon understood it.

The Constitution is very specifically designed to keep absolute power away from the President. Congress doesn’t work for him. They’re a separate branch. So is the court system. And those branches serve as a check against executive overreach and abuses.

The Constitution is awfully specific about the definition of treason, and it doesn’t include saying mean things about the President. If it did, the guy in the office now would’ve been arrested during the previous administration.

Perspective: Moderate/independent voters aren’t necessarily in the “middle” so much as they just don’t fit neatly into the binary left/right categories.

In a reasonable world, climate change would not be a political question. It certainly wouldn’t be a partisan issue. Our *responses* to it would still be political. And yeah, probably partisan as well. But its *existence* isn’t a political question, it’s a scientific one.
