Question for #gemini users – is there a consensus on the best way to handle photo galleries? Browsing around I’ve mostly seen just index pages with links, which I suppose works, but it feels like the old days of Twitter when you had to click on a link to twitpic or yfrog or wherever and there was no preview to give you any hint unless the author posted a good description in the tweet.

I do like the way Lagrange handles that case, though, loading the linked image inline when you click on the link. It helps to avoid losing the context of where you are.

There is apparently a version of the Iditarod that people *run on foot* !?!?!?

The part where the author’s running partner can’t sleep and is having hallucinations while running is just kind of….what are you DOING?

Covid adjacent, office

It’s now been a year since I’ve been to the office.

Weirdly enough I kind of miss the commute. Not having to do it every day, but the excuse to get out, and having a physical separation between work and home mentalities.

They’re planning to keep most of the dev team remote once in person offices are a thing again. Just bring us in for meetings and stuff. Which will work better once the kid is back in physical school, too, because JFC the whining…

Probably ought to ask if they want the card keys & parking pass back for the old office.

I went back through my photos and found one where you *can* see the green on the male wigeon’s head!

Here’s a male and a female, plus a coot. The coots were scattered around the entire pond, while the wigeons were mostly at one end (probably not coincidentally, the end where people were more likely to stand around tossing bread into the water. Right next to the sign saying not to feed the birds, especially not bread.)

Unusual photos of Martian landscapes from Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter

Nice small collection of unusual photos of Martian landscapes from Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter at Daily Overview. I don’t know what the blue triangle thing is.

The description doesn’t say, but I’m guessing most of them are false-color or exaggerated.

Call your doctor if you experience double wigeon.

Call your doctor if you experience double wigeon.

There were SO MANY wigeons at the pond that day. A lot of the males were making this whistling sound like a squeaky toy and making a big display of flapping their wings. Duck waving, I suppose you could call it.

The males’ heads also had this green iridescence, but I couldn’t capture it.

I saw a few dozen wigeons swimming in the pond as well. Some of them were swimming in male/female pairings, while some of the males were making whistling/squeaky noises and displaying their wings.
