Some birds I saw on a hike today
Some #birds I saw on a hike today:
- One of several Black Phoebes I saw around the grounds of the park
- A California Towhee that had just chased another bird away from this puddle.
- One of the clearest views I’ve had of a hummingbird away from a feeder.
- Possibly a goldfinch? There were a bunch of them in the same bush.

Thanks!
iNat users suggest it’s an Allen’s Hummingbird.
I spotted this Black Phoebe just as I spun a Team Rocket-occupied stop
We were out for the monthly #PokemonGo Community Day, and I spotted this #BlackPhoebe just as I spun a Team Rocket-occupied stop. Somehow I managed to get a decent photo of it while battling Team Rocket.

Western Gull
House Sparrow
Mallard
I only saw two ducks today. Usually I see more here.
American Coot
I saw two or three coots right by the water.
Canada Goose
One of *many* geese hanging out on the lawn of the park
Snowy Egret
One of about a dozen egrets I saw when I got to the last remaining ponds at the marsh toward the end of summer.
Black Phoebe (small & fluffy, Madrona)

Normally I have to take photos of doves with a zoom lens, but this one was just calmly sitting in a tree, making its “Ooh-Ooh” call. It didn’t even fly off when I walked around the tree to get a better angle with my phone.
Most likely a Eurasian Collared Dove, one of several types I’ve seen around the Los Angeles area.

…I’ve kind of slowed down a bit since I’ve identified all the weeds and butterflies and birds in this part of the city, so I have to go farther out to find something new. But I’m also still going through my backlog of old photos.
