This crow started swooping toward a hawk almost as soon as it perched on top of an electrical transmission tower. It tried a bunch of times to scare it off, but the hawk ignored it.

Red-tailed Hawk (on transmission tower, May)
This hawk glided across the sky, then alighted on top of an electrical transmission tower. Almost immediately, a crow started trying to scare it off, swooping toward it repeatedly. The hawk remained unfazed and just stayed put while I walked around to the other side of the tower.
European Starling
House Sparrows (dusty)
The sparrows were bobbing up and down, but not like they were digging for food. As far as I could tell, they were playing in the gopher holes.
Note: A commenter on iNat pointed out that they were likely dust bathing

Warning, schmorning. I perch where I want!

(To be fair, the kingbird is unlikely to dig into the pipeline. Or damage the sign. Much.)

Black Phoebe
Young European Starling
Maybe a young starling? There were certainly a lot of adult starlings around.
Northern Mockingbird
House Sparrows
A male and female house sparrow hopped across the street together, then stopped in the middle of the bike path and started mating. A second male sparrow showed up and the two males fought briefly. I think it was the second one that flew away. Then the female sparrow flew to the grass at the side of the path and they picked up where they left off.

Two crows chased a squirrel across the lawn at a park…
Two crows chased a squirrel across the lawn at a park, one of them swooping down and possibly making contact with its claws (I couldn't quite tell) until it ran up this tree. Then they perched on a nearby fence and waited. When it tried to run down the trunk, they flew at it again and it went back up. One crow perched on another branch of the tree and waited, while the other flew off.

Cooper’s Hawk (in tree, full)
Probably a Cooper’s Hawk, spotted on a walk this afternoon. It flew up to a telephone pole, alighted there for a few seconds, and as I was trying to line up a shot with the camera, it took off again, then flew a few houses down the street to perch in this tree.
I also posted a closer crop on my *ahem* @AddHawk account
Cooper’s Hawk (in tree, portrait)
Probably a Cooper’s Hawk, also spotted on the same walk this afternoon. It flew up to a telephone pole, alighted there for a few seconds, and as I was trying to line up a shot with the camera, it took off again, then flew a few houses down the street to perch in this tree.

It’s the first day of the City Nature Challenge!
This weekend, try to observe as many wild plants and animals in your neighborhood as you can, especially in urban areas.
Here are some #birds I spotted on a late afternoon walk today, including a sparrow, one of many many finches, two doves, and what I think might be two blackbirds (yes, including the gray one).
