Some flowers and a tree that puts out deep red leaves in spring. It wasn’t labeled, but I think it’s a Krauter Vesuvius plum. Lit from the front the leaves are a deep purple. Lit from behind they’re this super-bright red.

Weeds or wildflowers? Sometimes the line is blurry.

Indian Hawthorn flowers in bloom
Indian Hawthorn flowers in bloom. The empty lot is the greenbelt under a set of transmission wires. Hawthorns will grow as bushes, and make up a *lot* of hedges around here, but they can also be trained to grow upward and pruned into trees. There are several spaced along this block at the same stage of growth.
Lily in the spotlight
I decided to see what I could do with my phone camera, which mostly meant landscapes and plants.
When I parked for a hike at the marsh preserve, I discovered that I hadn’t actually put my camera in my backpack as I’d intended. So I decided to see what I could do with my phone camera, which mostly meant landscapes and plants.

This bee was crawling into one of these trumpet shaped flowers after another. I finally decided to aim at the flower it had just climbed into, then wait for it to leave and see if I could catch it. Amazingly, it worked!
Managed to identify the not-iceplant
Managed to identify the not-iceplant. It’s Blue Chalksticks, or Blue Chalk Stick. Either way, it’s remarkably descriptive.
Posted it to iNat even though it’s cultivated landscaping in hopes that the info will help both the AI and human identifiers.

Bzzzzzz! A honey bee visiting clover flowers in the strip of lawn along the sidewalk. I still can't get over being able to get closeup photos like this using my phone.

The flowers, apparently Matilija Poppies, had huge, flat white petals with these large yellow centers. They looked like fried eggs.

Oops… I realized I’ve already posted this one here. Well, I added more info this time, so at least it’s not a completely duplicate post. 🤦♂️

This lone flower was growing against the base of a tree in the strip of grass next to the sidewalk. It reminds me of some flowers in a planter down the street, but it’s not quite the same. They’re purple and white, and the petals are thicker than these.
