Metro approves new train station to connect rail to LAX

Well, this is going to be interesting. Instead of Metro re-routing the Crenshaw Line into the airport (since they’ve already broken ground on it), LAX will run their own ultra-light train from the airport, through the offsite parking and the existing bus hub, to meet the Metro line at a transfer station. The weird thing is that the station they just approved is a very short walk from the one being planned for Century/Aviation. I’m not 100% sure, but I suspect I’ve been in train stations in other cities that are longer than the distance between these two stops.

Smoke from a wildfire burning northeast of Los Angeles. Sky to the west is totally clear. Sunlight is orange.

Smoke plume from a wildfire burning northeast of Los Angeles. It hasn’t had time to diffuse through the whole basin yet, and the wind has cleared out all the smog, so the sky to the west is a gorgeous blue and the distant mountains and skyline are completely clear.

The sun is shining. The grass is green. I don’t see any orange trees, and the palm trees aren’t swaying much, but it’s clear enough that I can see Beverly Hills, LA in the distance on December the 24th. All that said, I’d rather be here than someplace with subzero temperatures, “White Christmas” or otherwise. #losangeles #christmas #christmaseve #sunshine #christmassongs

First sign of work at the southern end of what will be the Crenshaw/LAX Metro line. The Green Line station across the street was built with a partial Y connector and pylon bases to make it easier to eventually connect up a future N/S line. Now thei they’re finally going to do something with them.
