American Wigeon
American Coot
One of several dozen coots that were swimming around the pond and walking along the shore, sharing the pond with ducks and geese.
Cedar Waxwing
There were a zillion of these birds all perching in the same tree, flying off in groups and circling back to perch again.

Sometimes it’s worth remembering to look away from the sunset, too. I stopped to capture this view yesterday.
(Incidentally: yes, there are signs and light poles inside the pond. The park doubles as a flood control basin.)

American Coot
Normally I only see one or two coots here, along with more ducks and geese. Maybe I was just looking at the wrong end of the pond.

Geese at the amphitheatre.
This city park has a pond which attracts ducks, coots, seagulls, and as near as I can tell a permanent flock of Canada Geese that wander around the banks of the pond and the open space at the south end, where these terraces are located.
Let’s just say I don’t think I’d want to sit on the ground in that part of the park.

Fox Squirrel (Polliwog stash)
Some sort of moss or lichen on this tree in a city park.
Mallard
I only saw two ducks today. Usually I see more here.
American Coot
I saw two or three coots right by the water.
Canada Goose
One of *many* geese hanging out on the lawn of the park
American Coot
While I saw lots of Canada geese and mallards, and a handful of gulls, I only saw two coots.
Red-Eared Slider
It’s not often I see one of these turtles *out* of the pond.
Canada Goose
There were several dozen geese, some on the grass and others on the pond. And I saw several fights break out, with shouting like this, or charging. Mostly against other geese, not the ducks or coots, and I don’t think any of them actually connected.

Apparently Polliwog Park doubles as a flood control basin.

Apparently Polliwog Park doubles as a flood control basin. We moved to the area at the beginning of the drought, so it never came up before (so to speak). It was on the way to work, and the storm had moved on, so I stopped to take a look.
