I missed this article on the libwebp vulnerability the first time through, but I really have to appreciate this line after a list of high-profile projects and the versions with it patched:
“The number of affected software packages is too large to check all of them.”
TIL that BubbleWrap is an actual brand name.
And that they now make all-paper recyclable padded envelopes.
Interesting article looking at the way Good Omens Season 2 reframes Job, and looking at the siege of the bookshop as a more inclusive commentary on the different interpretations of Sodom and Gomorrah

And this is why I’m finally replacing Chrome with Vivaldi as my backup mobile browser. (Currently using Firefox as primary on both desktop & mobile, already using Vivaldi as secondary on desktop, which is why I started there for the mobile replacement.)

How do you buy random electronics gadgets these days?
There’s got to be something *useful* between “I know the brand I’m looking for and a store I can buy it from” and “Um…there are 523 virtually identical items on Amazon, each with a different randomly-generated 6-letter ‘brand’ name and 50000 reviews that may or may not be from real people or for this actual product.”
Sorta thinking if it’s going to be junk anyway it doesn’t matter which one, but also thinking that’s the whole business model and I’d rather not support it.
“Itchy Feet” comic on the suspicious ease of learning Esperanto. 😄

Just read that Molly Holzschlag has died at 60, after a long series of illnesses.

DS9 rewatch is up to the episode where the B plot got submitted to an advice column a few months ago.
The A plot is also a train wreck in which Worf acts as Cyrano de Bergerac for Quark, who’s trying to court a Klingon woman whom Worf also has a crush on, while Dax spends the whole episode dropping subtle hints to Worf that he’s got another option right here.
To be fair, I hadn't heard of the takahē until last year when I found out about the Fediverse project that named itself after the bird, which also plugs the Takahē Recovery Programme

The best photo of a #takahē I've ever seen.
(The big blue ball. That one.)
(seen on Bluesky but I couldn't find the post linking to it when I scrolled back looking for it.)
TIL that Arleen Sorkin used to prepare for voice acting sessions as Harley Quinn by singing “Adelaide’s Lament” in the car.
Interesting article from a local botanical garden where I like to go hiking (and taking photos!) about how they're adapting planting strategies to the changes in climate.

So if I’m reading the oEmbed spec correctly, it should be possible to pre-render #oEmbed metadata for a #staticSite as long as I…
Photo, video, and rich responses are all required to specify a width and height, and those are required to fit within the requested maxheight and maxwidth, so those responses would have to be dynamic.
It’s not clear whether [3] is necessary if I have [2].
Link responses aren’t that much more useful than including the title element in the original file.
Photo responses would be good for, well, photos, and rich responses would let me design the embedded preview for an article. Which would be nice.
But most of this is pretty much covered by #OpenGraph and similar #metadata schemes that are just in the file — no messing around with API endpoints or mapping and the rest. So I’m not sure it would be worth the effort except maaaaybe being able to get WordPress sites to embed a preview when someone pastes a plain URL. (Assuming it will look for the discovery link in the first place, that is.)
Just got a 4-star (perfect stats) Shinx, evo’ed it to a Luxray.
Called it “Four Lights”
Still amused that Axe is advertising that you can smell like a goat.
I mean, sure, it’s not “a goat” so much as “the G.O.A.T.” but the imagery in the commercial is all about goats.

Politically speaking, I don't care about whether Hunter Biden is corrupt or not. I care whether Joe Biden is corrupt or not. Hunter isn't (and wasn't) the one in office. Or even in the administration.
Prosecute Hunter for his own crimes, sure, but you don't need a congressional investigation.
That's just the GOP trying to establish guilt by association because they don't have anything on their actual target, and it's JUST. SO. TEDIOUS.
