Just some #mosstodon from a recent hike in the Palos Verdes Peninsula hills near Los Angeles. There’s a nature preserve along one of the canyons with a stream running through it that actually has water after this winter’s repeated storms, unlike when I went there last summer (or was it fall?) And it was completely dry.
I love how #PokemonGo postcards always start out with “Greetings from” even when they go on to a name like “SQUIRREL of DOOM!”
According to the postcard info, it’s a mural by Glasgow artist Sam Bates aka Smug.
Stumbled on this amazing #APOD from 2014

Um…okaaaay…
I guess if I ever need to post an emoji of The Dread Dormammu shrugging…?
Crescent moon and Mercury as seen a few nights ago. Venus had set below the hills a few minutes earlier. Not a great shot, but “the camera you have…” and all that.
Finally settled on this #GulfFritillary #Butterfly as my best #photo on Flickr for the year. I like some of the other photos better for where I was, or what I was trying to do with the shot, but I think this came out better overall.
Other candidates include a squirrel, autumn trees, and black-and-white sunbeams, but this was the most attention-catching at a first glance.
10 years ago a young #MountainLion crossed two freeways and began a life in Griffith Park, a semi-wild area in the hills of #LosAngeles. #P22 became a trail-cam celebrity, outlived life expectancy for wild pumas and inspired a #wildlife bridge across the 101.
Waning health prompted biologists to bring him in for a checkup, but he was hit by a car first. Injuries & chronic illness were too much for him to survive in a sanctuary, and he’s been euthanized.
I should clarify in case the ALT text isn’t visible – the attached photo from the LA Times is of P-22 in better days, spotted on a wildlife camera.

I couldn’t quite get the color processing on this hidden bench the way I wanted, but I think it’s interesting at least.
(Also: testing Flickr embeds)
This beetle landed on my car window as I was about to start, then climbed onto the top of the car. I had to look. (Too bad I don’t drive a VW Beetle.)
A #MonarchButterfly spotted over the weekend. Not sure what kind of flower it’s hiding behind.
Spot the #lizard!
(Seriously, I couldn’t tell if it was in frame at the time I took the photo.)
A fox #squirrel spotted running across the lawn at the park.
Backlit Skeleton. Seen while walking around a few weeks ago. They kept adding more stuff to the yard as #Halloween approached.
