Finally recovered enough from the flu to get out for a walk in the neighborhood (while that’s still an option).
I think this first bird (possibly a goldfinch?) was trying to practice social distancing, though the crow in the third photo seems to be doing a better job. The house finch was such a bright red that I thought it had to be another kind of bird until I looked at the photos.

Some parts of the marsh are colorful this time of year. Grass has grown, wildflowers are starting to peek out. Others…not so much. But at least the wooded parts look less bleak than the open ponds.
Another shot of #wildflowers from the same hike, closer to the parts of the marsh with water. The purple/white flowers are wild radish.
This one works better when viewed at a larger size. I think I like the yellow fiddlenecks shot better because it works at a smaller size too.
When I parked for a hike at the marsh preserve, I discovered that I hadn’t actually put my camera in my backpack as I’d intended. So I decided to see what I could do with my phone camera, which mostly meant landscapes and plants.
Repeating curve pattern on a hotel wall. Not the first time I’ve tried to take a photo of it, but I think I like the soft lighting on this one, taken while this section was in the shade, but still very well lit by indirect sunlight.
On Pokemon Go, it’s a gym known as “Recursive Walls.”

Sometimes it’s worth remembering to look away from the sunset, too. I stopped to capture this view yesterday.
(Incidentally: yes, there are signs and light poles inside the pond. The park doubles as a flood control basin.)

A fall evening in Monterey between storms. This is near Custom House Plaza, along a section of Alvarado Street that’s been closed to cars and made into a pedestrian-only street. Just behind where I was standing, a temporary ice skating rink has opened for the season.

A flock of birds over sailboats on Monterey Bay. It was raining for most of the road trip, but Friday had some nice sunny weather in between storms, and I got to walk along the shore for a bit.

Kenneth Hahn Park features a patch of semi-wilderness in the middle of suburban #LosAngeles that’s great for hiking…and is also right next to the Inglewood Oil Field.
One of the (many) weird things about #LosAngeles is that there are fragments of wilderness scattered throughout the suburbs. (Mostly where it was a pain to build, or someone owned a lot of land & decided to donate it.)
I had two photos of this #trail junction and #fence. I liked the colors in one, the composition in the other, and I just couldn’t get the balance right on the second. On a whim I desaturated it. Turns out it looks better in #blackandwhite anyway!

Flowering #Jade. In November.
It was a pretty big one, too, probably 3-4 feet tall and maybe 7-8 feet across. Definitely bigger than you usually see it as a houseplant
