Repeating curve pattern on a hotel wall. Not the first time I’ve tried to take a photo of it, but I think I like the soft lighting on this one, taken while this section was in the shade, but still very well lit by indirect sunlight.
On Pokemon Go, it’s a gym known as “Recursive Walls.”

Looking up at the walls of a hotel near LAX. The #patterened #facade in the first photo is repeated on several other walls around the hotel. Above it are many layers of #interleaved balconies for the hotel rooms.
Does anyone know the term for this #architecture style? It’s sort of post-Googie, pre-Brutalist?
Not as good a photo, but a wider view for context, before they repainted a couple of years ago. The wall and balconies are on the tower to the left of the frame.

A nearly full semicircle, redder than usual, taken just minutes before sunset. I had to stitch two photos together to get the whole thing, which messed with the aspect ratio a bit.
The Marriott Hotel in Downtown San Diego, right next to the convention center.
Hotel reservations for Comic-Con International go on sale at 9:00 Pacific time tomorrow morning. For the last several years, demand for hotel rooms has been so high that hours spent redialing a phone or trying to get into the website have been typical. The travel agents have set up an entirely new procedure to counteract it. I’ve posted some thoughts on the change over at K-Squared Ramblings.
I guess we’ll see tomorrow how well it works.
Update: Better than I expected, at least for the first part. Here are my thoughts on how the process worked.
Update 2: The request may have gone smoothly, but the rest of the day turned out to be an exercise in frustration.
