Fragments of a #CircumhorizonArc seen on my way back from lunch today. I took some shots with my phone, because that's what I had, then remembered that I had the good camera with me and grabbed it from the office. The clouds had shifted, but not far enough to destroy the effect completely.

Most of us have seen a single #rainbow. Many of us have seen a double rainbow. But occasionally someone will spot a *split* rainbow. These can be produced if some of the raindrops are flattened or elongated, though it’s not always clear what causes the change in shape.

This is an interesting set of photos of a *multiple-split* rainbow and and an article on trying to calculate the circumstances that produced it.

Sunset Double Rainbow and Airplane Over LA

I was on the top of a parking structure near LAX to take pictures of the clouds, and was just about to head down when I saw a fragment of the primary rainbow appear. I decided to stick around and keep watching, and was rewarded when it brightened and lengthened, and then a faint secondary bow (just to the right of the airplane) came into view.
