Takeout containers labeled FF for French Fries. Kid jokes: “Oh, there are lots of 255s!”
To be more precise, they’re actually labeled FFS, which of course is another thing entirely

Host fixed their routing so my Nextcloud instance is reachable again and I don’t need to move it immediately. But this isn’t the first time this has happened, and I’m really starting to think hosting it at home is the way to go. Eventually.
And still no reply from tech support on the cloud server that lost its network connection to the outside world today (but that I can still SSH into from other servers in their datacenter)
Beginning to wonder if I should (a) move my Nextcloud laterally to another server and drop the old one,
(b) look for a different cloud provider (their managed VPS hosting is SOLID, but this has been flaky),
(c) plug storage into my Pi, host Nextcloud locally & open up outside access for when I’m out.
(a) would be simplest, but I’ll just have to deal with this again. (b) would involve researching other providers. (c) would mean figuring out what kind of storage I want to use & figuring out how best to mitigate the risk of allowing external access to a machine on the home network. I mean, yeah, I’m mostly at home these days anyway, but I’m kind of hoping that will change soon!
Something I’ve noticed lately is that I’m having the worst anxiety problems around indecision. Like, totally freezing up unable to take any sort of action on something because I’m not sure which approach I should take – and then once I just PICK SOMETHING I’m fine, even if I still have a nagging suspicion the other approach would have been better.
Heh. Yeah, the wandering trader in Minecraft is basically a lead generator.
Officially Team Moderna! Second dose scheduled for mid-May.
No adverse reaction & so far side effects consist of a sore arm (big surprise) and why am I so freaking tired can I just take a nap (probably not) đŸ˜´
Also, the counter and kitchen staff are mostly wearing those standard disposable surgical masks, except one has a plain black cloth mask…and one woman has a mask completely covered with sequins. If you’ve gotta pandemic, pandemic in style!
Waiting to pick up takeout and something in the restaurant is playing the main part of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies over and over and over and over
I suspect it’s an alarm or ringtone or someone’s game on their phone. It’s definitely not the baseball game on the tv.
While we’re at it, why is it that device makers put so much effort into branding the models and generations (Galaxy S21! iPhone 12! Pixel 5!), keep the same branding across markets so they don’t need to translate it…and then not actually *label* the device with anything more specific than an Apple, Samsung, Google, etc. logo? My phone doesn’t even have a cryptic fine-print model number on it.
So, Amazon has a web page where you can look up distinguishing features of your Kindle e-reader to figure out which model it is in case you don’t remember (or bought it second hand).

Because they don’t put this in the Device Info screen for some reason.
Wife got her first dose of the vaccine today. I’m scheduled for Monday. We made appointments through a provider that we’ve both been to before, so we were already in the system.
We deliberately staggered the appointments so if we both get hit by side effects, they probably won’t be at the same time.
Not sure “F/U” is the best abbreviation for “Follow up”
Soon the struggle begins to convince the kid to actually go to bed the last night of spring break.
Brute force login alert from a site I manage, letting me know that an IP had been locked out: “The last username they tried to sign in with was: ‘scamnumbersalert’.”
I…why would you even expect that to work?
No, brain, Duolingo and iNaturalist are not the same. I mean yes, they’re both green icons and they both have owls in them, but that’s about as far as it goes.
Thank you, Google, for your monthly reminder that you track my movements and that I haven’t gone much of anywhere lately.
Heh. “Why Does Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall Volcano Look Like a School Science Project?” And why the type of lava and type of eruption make it (comparatively) safe for people to see it up close.
Interesting: “Across many experiments, participants tried to fix problems by adding stuff” even when removing something was a simpler solution.
When asked to fix something, we don’t even think of removing parts
And now I’m reminded of an essay I saw years ago about how people are more likely to ask for a preference to change application behavior than just ask it to change.
Republicans: Corporations should be able to do whatever they want!
Also Republicans: Wait, not like that.
