Geese at the amphitheatre.
Geese at the amphitheatre.
This city park has a pond which attracts ducks, coots, seagulls, and as near as I can tell a permanent flock of Canada Geese that wander around the banks of the pond and the open space at the south end, where these terraces are located.
Let’s just say I don’t think I’d want to sit on the ground in that part of the park.

Two #squirrels spotted on a hike last weekend: The good photos, and the two-seconds-later photos.
The first one took a while for me to spot inside the bush (though I could hear it), and then it started chowing down on the berries.
The second one looked like it was checking both ways before crossing the street, and then it took off in a blur. So maybe it was.
Fox Squirrel (ready to cross the road)
Squirrel (hiding)
I heard a lot more animals than I saw on this walk, and in this case I heard a *lot* of rustling from these bushes. I finally spotted the squirrel eating berries just behind the outer layer of leaves.
Also decided to go for a less traditional view of the lighthouse at Point Vicente
Also decided to go for a less traditional view of the #lighthouse at #PointVicente while I was there last weekend.
Point Vicente: Rock Wren, Lighthouse and Sailboat
At #PointVicente, California: A wren(?) on the side of the cliffs, the iconic view of the cove and the historic #lighthouse, and a #sailboat alone on the sea.
iNat has suggested the bird is a rock wren.

Morrell House
The Morrell House, originally built around 1906, now restored in association with the Redondo Beach Historical Museum.
One of these days I’m actually going to go there when it’s open, instead of stopping on the way somewhere else.
I did decide that the hidden light and the old house might have some #spooky potential, and ran it through some effects filters. Not sure if I succeeded.
Fiery Skipper (on yellow flower cluster)
The squirrel turned around and planted itself firmly, staring at me as if ready to defend its hoard.
I saw this squirrel running across the grass, then got my camera out and caught the first photo as it ran up the side of a tree and paused, looking at me as if assessing whether I was a threat or not. Then it ran the rest of the way up to look at a gap in the tree, perhaps assuring itself that its stash was still where it had left it. I walked around to see that there was a hollow between the two major branches, and the squirrel turned around and planted itself firmly, staring at me as if ready to defend its hoard.
My photos taken, I walked away.

Guardian of the Woods
I could just imagine the squirrel proclaiming, “Turn back, traveller, and do not cross the shadow of these woods! Turn back now, while you still can!”
Some birds I saw on a hike today
Some #birds I saw on a hike today:
- One of several Black Phoebes I saw around the grounds of the park
- A California Towhee that had just chased another bird away from this puddle.
- One of the clearest views I’ve had of a hummingbird away from a feeder.
- Possibly a goldfinch? There were a bunch of them in the same bush.

Fox Squirrel (injured leg, SCBG)
This squirrel was running on three legs, holding it’s left front leg up. It looks like it’s injured.
