I saw three of these shorebirds skimming along the waves. A little later, I saw this one poking around, no doubt hunting for dinner.

Tiny channels in the sand
Tiny channels in the sand, where water was flowing back out to sea after each incoming wave.

Some parts of the marsh are colorful this time of year. Grass has grown, wildflowers are starting to peek out. Others…not so much. But at least the wooded parts look less bleak than the open ponds.
Another shot of wildflowers from the same hike
Another shot of #wildflowers from the same hike, closer to the parts of the marsh with water. The purple/white flowers are wild radish.
This one works better when viewed at a larger size. I think I like the yellow fiddlenecks shot better because it works at a smaller size too.
I decided to see what I could do with my phone camera, which mostly meant landscapes and plants.
When I parked for a hike at the marsh preserve, I discovered that I hadn’t actually put my camera in my backpack as I’d intended. So I decided to see what I could do with my phone camera, which mostly meant landscapes and plants.
I keep taking pictures of benches here for some reason.

I could *hear* the bird singing, but had to really look before I could finally spot it.

A fall evening in Monterey between storms. This is near Custom House Plaza, along a section of Alvarado Street that’s been closed to cars and made into a pedestrian-only street. Just behind where I was standing, a temporary ice skating rink has opened for the season.

A flock of birds over sailboats on Monterey Bay. It was raining for most of the road trip, but Friday had some nice sunny weather in between storms, and I got to walk along the shore for a bit.
Spotted while walking down the street.
A gloomy sunset over the OilField.
A #gloomy #sunset over the #OilField.
Kenneth Hahn Park features a patch of semi-wilderness in the middle of suburban #LosAngeles that’s great for hiking…and is also right next to the Inglewood Oil Field.

One of the (many) weird things about #LosAngeles is that there are fragments of wilderness scattered throughout the suburbs. (Mostly where it was a pain to build, or someone owned a lot of land & decided to donate it.)
I had two photos of this #trail junction and #fence. I liked the colors in one, the composition in the other, and I just couldn’t get the balance right on the second. On a whim I desaturated it. Turns out it looks better in #blackandwhite anyway!

Flowering Jade. In November.
Flowering #Jade. In November.
It was a pretty big one, too, probably 3-4 feet tall and maybe 7-8 feet across. Definitely bigger than you usually see it as a houseplant
Usually.
I’ve seen some pretty big jade plants in gardens, too!
Spotted across the street a few mornings ago on my way to work.

Geese at the amphitheatre.
Geese at the amphitheatre.
This city park has a pond which attracts ducks, coots, seagulls, and as near as I can tell a permanent flock of Canada Geese that wander around the banks of the pond and the open space at the south end, where these terraces are located.
Let’s just say I don’t think I’d want to sit on the ground in that part of the park.

Also decided to go for a less traditional view of the lighthouse at Point Vicente
Also decided to go for a less traditional view of the #lighthouse at #PointVicente while I was there last weekend.
Point Vicente: Rock Wren, Lighthouse and Sailboat
At #PointVicente, California: A wren(?) on the side of the cliffs, the iconic view of the cove and the historic #lighthouse, and a #sailboat alone on the sea.
iNat has suggested the bird is a rock wren.
